Meditation is the art or process of calming down or slowing down the mind and just taking some time to stop the mind from overworking. By slowing down the mind you can help it recoup and rejuvenate itself to help it work better in the future. Just like our bodies need 7-8 hours of sleep every day the mind needs rest and relaxation too. The mind does not sleep when the body is sleeping so meditation is a great way to give your mind that rest and relaxation that it really needs.
Meditation can be done in a number of different ways and there is no one fixed way to meditate. Different kinds of people meditate in different ways and it’s up to them to meditate in whichever way they feel most comfortable and what suits them and their needs the best. You could sit in a calm and peaceful environment like your home garden, the neighborhood park or on the side of a mountain cliff and just close your eyes and breathe calmly and slowly. Some people chant mantras or meaningful words as they meditate and some don’t. Some play calming soft and soothing music as they meditate or listen to repetitive music or chants. Some people like to light scented or aromatic candles and sit in a dimly lit room so that they can be alone with their thoughts.
Meditation should involve you thinking as less as possible and basically giving your brain and mind a break from all the stress that you put them through on a regular everyday basis. Meditation has wonderful effects on the mind and body and it can, in fact, help your brain and mind work better and more efficiently. Meditation can be done by young adults, children and old people.
Why Do You Meditate
All of us need to relax our minds at some point and prevent it from being overworked. And the best way to do that is to meditate. Meditation involves you sitting or even lying down in a calm and relaxed environment preferably outdoors, closing your eyes, breathing in and out deeply and just concentrating on…nothing. Meditation is to help give your mind a break and release it from all the stress, anxiety and worry that it goes through on an everyday basis.
People meditate for the following reasons –
1. Meditation helps calm the mind down and in doing this helps the mind to function better. Therefore, you are able to perform better at work, at home and at all the other things that you do on a regular basis. Meditation helps to relax and rejuvenate the mind and can even help regrow brain cells that have died.
2. Meditation helps you get better sleep at night and getting a good 8-9 hours of sleep is important for the body to function during the next day at work. Without sleep, you will feel tired, drained and exhausted at work and won’t be able to perform your duties properly.
3. Meditation helps to calm the senses and the nerves and helps you feel less agitated and stressed at the workplace and at home. If you are the type of person who gets worked up easily then meditation is the perfect solution to all your problems. It is one of the best tools for stress management and sleep apnea.
4. People also meditate to gain focus and direction in life. Some of us are confused as to what path to follow in life or what career to pursue so taking some time out to meditate and focus on our inner thoughts and feelings might help us see the light that will guide us down the right path.
The FocusBand Brain Training System and Mental Energy Tank (MET) are used for meditation.
The MET measures the time you have been in a calm state compared to when you have been interrupted or when your thoughts have strayed.
The MET reporting will highlight your progress over a period of time
