The Relationship between Stress and Anxiety, and how Meditation may Resolve the State

An anxious state of mind is not a pleasant mental state to find yourself in. Whether it be social anxiety, post traumatic stress disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, or any of the other variations of anxiety, they create a constant state of fear and helplessness in the affected individual. The relationship between stress and anxiety is especially interesting, in that they feed off of each other and create a self destructive cycle that works to make the anxious person suffer even more. Take for example, an individual with obsessive compulsive disorder who is anxious because on the way to work, they suddenly had the thought that they may have left open their front door. With the way unconscious habits operate, this is unlikely to be true. Yet they feel extreme stress and want to go home and check. Should they go home, they would be late for work and this creates further stress. It does not matter if they go home or to work, the anxiety and stress will continue to haunt them. Depression and its Interactions with Meditation

Depression is a disorder that has the potential to destroy lives. Those suffering from the condition may lose the will to live, stop taking care of themselves and withdraw from society. Suicide is also attempted by those with depression, in fact, they are at a greater risk of ending their lives. Isolated, unsure of what is happening to them and yet unwilling to resolve the issue by virtue of their mental state – depression is an enemy that sticks close to your side, pretending to be your friend. For those suffering from this condition, every new day is a struggle to survive, simple getting out of bed can prove to be a huge challenge. What Is Meditation

Performance training app mental energy tank avatar for meditationMeditation is the art or process of calming down or slowing down the mind and just taking some time to stop the mind from overworking. By slowing down the mind you can help it recoup and rejuvenate itself to help it work better in the future. Just like our bodies need 7-8 hours of sleep every day the mind needs rest and relaxation too. The mind does not sleep when the body is sleeping so meditation is a great way to give your mind that rest and relaxation that it really needs.

Meditation can be done in a number of different ways and there is no one fixed way to meditate. Different kinds of people meditate in different ways and it’s up to them to meditate in whichever way they feel most comfortable and what suits them and their needs the best. You could sit in a calm and peaceful environment like your home garden, the neighborhood park or on the side of a mountain cliff and just close your eyes and breathe calmly and slowly. Some people chant mantras or meaningful words as they meditate and some don’t. Some play calming soft and soothing music as they meditate or listen to repetitive music or chants. Some people like to light scented or aromatic candles and sit in a dimly lit room so that they can be alone with their thoughts.
